Developing color film in b/w chemicals

This was a shot in the dark. I have just read about it and seen examples of it. No concrete advice or developing times were available. But since I now have a nice stock of expired film, both c41 and e6, I decided to give it a try. Just to make it even more hazardous I used my Konica EE-matic camera, which came from ebay a couple of weeks ago and still hadn´t been tested.

The film was a Fuji superia 100, but I set the camera ISO to 200. The ee-matic is full auto exposure and will not shoot if it decides the lighting is too low.

The film was then developed in HC110 dillution B for 14min and fixed for 12min (I read somewhere that developing time for c41 would be at least double the time of ordinary b/w-film).

The results were mostly purpleish, but for some reason one picture came out different (as in picture above). Don´t know how or why, but I assume it´s something with the ee-matic´s auto exposure that did the difference, and that all the other pictures were overexposed? I wish I knew, because I really liked the tones of the non-purple one.

Next time it will be an Ektachrome 160 tungsten that expired in 1988!

Pentax DA 10-17mm

I have a new lens! It´s the fisheye from pentax. Althugh it´s called "fisheye", it appears to be flexible enough to do more than skateboard shots. Of course I had to shoot some extreme angles to see how far I can bend reality. The lens will certainly be a good companion for my upcoming Transylvanian journey.

Kodak Retinette 1A arrived

My £6 Retinette arrived last week, and I have tested it out with some black and white. Unfortunately I messed it up a bit during developing, so all of them were slightly overexposed. For that reason I had to tune them a bit in photoshop. But, the images seem to be nice and sharp - as long as you get the focus right...

Kodak Retinette

In the years before I bought my first Pentax-SLR, I used my mothers Kodak Retinette 1A - Not sure about the specific type though. Obviously it was all SLR and no Retinette from that moment (May 1996), so the Kodak was returned to it´s previous owner and never seen again.
After scanning some old negatives recently, I realised how good the Retinette pictures were, all things considered (no light meter, no distance measuring).
This led me to bid on a Retinette on eBay - though not received yet (and cost £5), i´m quite optimstic :) . From the pictures it looks like a type 042. It also seems to have some sort of filter on the lens too, but time will tell.

Anyway, here are some of the pictures I scanned. They are all shot with unbranded 200-film, but I think the local photo store at that time used agfa film and branded them with their own company name (Foto Knudsen). Pictures are scanned from negatives and time has not fared too well with the negatives, they are a bit scratched and dusty.

Circus comes to town

About a year ago I was lucky enough to get hold of approx. 20meters of Kodak Technical Pan - leftovers from the pre-digital era at the place I work (thank you Tom!). Most people who know the characteristics of T-pan also know that it´s not a very forgiving film in terms of shooting and processing. Anyway, with 20 m. and some time to experiment I landed some decent results - and there´s still plenty of film left :)

Rated at ISO 100 , the pictures were developed in HC-110 for approx. 8 minutes. Pictures were shot with a Pentax super A with a smc 2.8 28mm (and the top picture was slightly blurred in photoshop).

Tearing it down!

The old medical faculty in Bergen has finally come to an end, many years after they actually closed the doors. Built in the 60ies with materials of that age, demolishing has been postponed for years due to the expenses involved in handling asbestos.

When the building is removed, we expect a couple of weeks with a splendid view before they start building the new dental faculty, which will be bigger and bolder - and probably go where no dental faculty has gone before.
